Campaign Prayer:

Gracious and merciful Father, You love us into being and call us into mission.  Jesus, our Savior, taught us that the lamp of discipleship must be visible rather than hidden, that the measure with which we measure will be measured out to us, that what we do or fail to do for others, we do or fail to do for Him.  Bless the Diocese of Evansville, united throughout its twelve counties in Southwest Indiana.  May we seek to know and embrace Your will in all things, striving to be who and what we claim to be as the Church, the Body of Christ.  Grant us courage, humility and generosity to be more effective witnesses of mercy, justice and peace.  Renew in us the missionary spirit entrusted to the Church to be stewards of Your grace and blessings through time, talent and treasure.  May Your Holy Spirit guide and strengthen us as intentional disciples of Your Son through Word, Sacrament and Service.  We ask this of You through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever, Amen.  – Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!

Announcement:

Our all-parish, diocesan-wide capital campaign to help strengthen our parishes and our diocese began September 24th and 25th – Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time.  The Stewards of God’s Grace Capital Campaign will achieve several objectives for our parishes and our diocesan ministries: work towards a fully funded pension plan for retired priests, fund continuing education for priests, provide support for a priest sabbatical fund, provide seed monies for a priest aid fund; bolster tuition assistance for Catholic schools, provide for training and certification of teachers of religious education; enrich programming for youth and young adults; generate new work space and enhanced services for Catholic Charities clients; sustain the current and future needs of our parishes, and improve the energy efficiency of the diocese with the installation of new windows.

Specific to our parish, the campaign funds will be used to replace and improve our sidewalks, expand our parking lot capacity, and enhance the overall beauty of our Good Shepherd Catholic Church and School campus.  If we exceed our goals, we also hope to remodel a portion of the Music Ministry Office by adding a second floor above Mark’s working area for extra storage space, as well as update paint and carpet inside Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

This campaign will have a long-term impact both on our parish and our diocese as we address some of our urgent needs.  Check back regularly for up-to-date comments concerning the progress of our campaign.

DIOCESE OF EVANSVILLE – GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH, EVANSVILLE

Capital Campaign Target             $1,385,851
Parish Portion                                        $   692,925
Diocesan Portion                                 $   692,925

Half of every dollar raised by Good Shepherd Parish in our shared parish-diocesan Stewards of God’s Grace Capital Campaign will stay in our parish. This campaign will allow us to make needed improvements not only at our own parish, but will bolster support for the ministries of our diocese, that serve all 12 counties. The target amount for our parish to raise over the three-year life of this campaign is $1,385,851. This is one times our annual offertory spread out over three years. This means that $692,925 will be available for us to address our own projects. This is a great opportunity for us to come together, on behalf of the greater good of our parish and our diocese. Strong parishes make for a strong diocese.  Based on feedback from parishioners and our parish leadership, below are our most pressing needs and the estimated cost of each project:

New parking lot for church and school – $650,000 (Estimated)

With coming together as one parish, our community has grown and parking has become an issue.  Specific to Good Shepherd, the campaign funds will be used to replace and improve our sidewalks, expand our parking lot capacity, and enhance the overall beauty of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and School campus.  Additionally, we would save room for some city-mandated green space and make improvements to the sidewalks where needed.  This would well serve our needs and provide for continued safety for our parish family.

Additional storage for church and school records – $30,000 (Estimated)

Good record keeping is a key to success for any thriving parish, and we currently do not have enough space to do this task well. With the merging of Good Shepherd and St. Theresa Parishes, we have more need than ever to increase our storage space.

New carpet and paint in the church – $150,000 (Estimated)

Since Good Shepherd was built over 26 years ago, we have never replaced the carpet or repainted the interior. Normal wear and tear over those years has led to our worship space in need of an upgrade in these areas. New carpet and fresh paint are two ways of enhancing the beauty of our church, our spiritual home.

As you can see, the three projects add up to more than what the diocese has set our target.  As a faith family I have no doubt that we can, with this fundraising effort, surpass our target and raise the funds we need to complete all three projects. All are necessary and real needs in caring for our wonderful church. Others before us came together and constructed the edifice. It is our charge to care for its preservation, as we do our own home.

I want to thank everyone in advance for your support of the Stewards of God’s Grace Capital Campaign. This campaign will make a real difference on both the parish and diocesan levels. Each of our gifts in support of this effort can collectively transform our parish and our diocese.  And so I ask you to prayerfully consider making your generous gift, for the greater good of all.
