Update from St. Rose in Haiti
Haiti Collection – August 22nd/23rd
On August 22nd and 23rd, we will take a second collection for our Twin Parish in Haiti, St. Rose of Lima. St Rose of Lima’s Feast Day is celebrated on August 30th.
Please stay up-to-date with current details from Fr. Frantzdy Joseph, c.s.c. and members of our Twinned Parish – Saint Rose of Lima [Pilate, Haiti].
They are truly struggling currently, especially as a result of the coronavirus pandemic:
St. Theresa Place – Habitat for Humanity
St. Theresa Parish has been merged with Good Shepherd Catholic Parish. The church and school buildings have been torn down. Only the rectory and garage are left standing and are being used by Catholic Charities. Catholic Charities is building their office building along Stringtown between Herndon and Wedeking.
Habitat for Humanity has proposed to build 14 houses east of the rectory – 7 houses facing Herndon and 7 on Wedeking. The cost to sponsor a house is $80,000. The area will be called St. Theresa Place.
A group of St. Theresa parishioners and friends of St. Theresa have met 2 times to keep alive the family spirit of St. Theresa. Father Ted Tempel served as pastor of St. Theresa from 1979-1993. He volunteered to raise money for 3 Habitat Houses – $240,000.
He is asking us to consider making a commitment to achieve this goal. They are seeking a commitment over a 4-year period, to be given by the end of 2023.

10 People to Give $2,000 a Year for 4 Years
04 People to Give $5,000 a Year for 4 Years
They have 4 people who have pledged $80,000 to build a Habitat house. It is more joy in giving while we are living – realizing we are helping people own their own home.

Marian Consecration
Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
In the July 16 issue of The Message, Bishop Siegel announced his intention to consecrate the Diocese of Evansville to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 12. Bishop Siegel also encourages each of us to consecrate ourselves individually to Mary. In the weeks before (typically the 33 days), we are all invited to spiritually prepare for this consecration.
If you wish to consecrate yourselves to Mary and to follow the traditional 33 day (or approximately 5 week) preparation for Marian Consecration, you’ll begin preparation on August 10. One book you could consider reading is, “33 Days to Morning Glory, A Do It Yourself Retreat in Preparation for Marian Consecration,” by Fr. Michael Gaitley. If you would rather not do a self-guided retreat, for each of the five weeks, please pray a Marian Prayer together as a family. You can also choose a different prayer each week. Following are some possibilities:
Week 1: Memorare
Week 2: The Angelus
Week 3: Hail Mary – Part of Rosary Prayers
Week 4: Magnificat
Week 5: Hail Holy Queen – Part of Rosary Prayers
Along with the Marian Prayer for the week, you can also pray a rosary after Mass either on Saturday or Sunday. All families are being encouraged to spend some time with the Blessed Mother in personal prayer. May Mary watch over you and bless you as you begin this new school year. Let us turn to our Lady for her prayer and protection now and always!
UPDATE FROM FATHER TYLER AND SEMINARIANS
I want to extend a tool the seminarians and I have been working on: Daily Consecration videos.
In each YouTube video, a seminarian reads the daily consecration prayers from Catholic Company. Parishioners can find them there for free, as well. If people would like to listen while they drive to work or have someone to pray with virtually, these videos might be a good resource.

Father Deydier House of Discernment
House of Discernment Summer Update – August 2020
On August 19, 2020, the House of Discernment will welcome four residents who are new to the
House: Jacob Greulich of Corpus Christi Parish; Kienan Corcoran of Little Flower Parish
(Indianapolis); Nick Folz of Good Shepherd Parish; and Jacob Schneider of Corpus Christi
Parish. Each is either a student at one of the universities in Evansville or is working in the area.
Former House resident Chase Riecker from St. Isidore in Celestine was accepted for seminary
for the Diocese of Evansville and begins his freshman year at Bishop Bruté this fall.
Our “Savio” gatherings have evolved with the pandemic precautions, and a Holy Hour followed
by a drive-in style movie was held in June for the teenage boys and their dads. Nearly 60 young
men showed up to watch “Remember the Titans,” a feel-good sports movie that tackles the issue
of racism.
A second Savio event was held on August 8 at 7am. About 50 young men and their dads showed
up for a 7am early Mass followed by a 2-mile run around Reitz Hill. An outdoor breakfast
followed for the many who attended. It was called “Sacrifice Saturday,” because for teenage
boys, 7am Mass on a Saturday is a sacrifice (not to mention the run!).
Our weekly Monday Night “Holy Hour & Mass for Vocations” at Sacred Heart reopened this
summer, and attendance is steadily increasing. All are welcome for this time of prayer.
The Good Shepherd Knights of Columbus sponsored a promotional video showcasing the House
of Discernment, and it was released this summer on YouTube. Search for the “Evansville
Vocations” channel, and you’ll find it amidst other videos from the Vocations Office.
Though the year has begun, the House still has a little space left. Applications for 2020-21 are
currently being accepted. If you know of a young man (18-30) who might benefit from a
Catholic community of prayer and fraternity while continuing his career or college, please have
him contact House Director, Fr. Tyler Tenbarge (trtenbarge@evdio.org). Men who are
discerning benefit from this place. The House of Discernment allows men to find where the Lord
is calling and the freedom to go when the time is right, without the commitments of housing
contracts or semester tuition.

Also, the Vocations Office will host five Holy Hours this fall at parishes across the diocese to pray for vocations. Each hour of prayer will be led by the parish priest(s) and Father Tyler and will be followed by a 30-45 minute discussion with a panel of families of priests, seminarians and religious from our parishes.

Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study Group
We will be having a weekly Bible Study starting on Wednesday, September 11th at 1:00pm in the conference room at Church. We plan to watch and discuss the series from Formed called Presence, the Mystery of the Eucharist. Please contact Gretchen Miller at (812) 760-8411 for more information.

Good Shepherd Adult Choir Seeking New Members
Our Good Shepherd Adult Choir is seeking new members for the upcoming season. We practice on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00, and minister at the 10:30am Mass on Sundays from September to June. We sing for significant liturgical occasions such as Christmas Eve, Holy Week and other Holy Days. Our first practice will be on August 21st, at 6:30pm in the church. We accept members of all choral experience, and the choir is open to members ages 16 and older. Please contact Melanie Baker at mbaker@evdio.org if you are interested.
